Timofey Kurgin  was born in Ramenskoye, Moscow Region in 1977. Timofey was the second child in the family. The elder brother, Alexander, is in business. Natalya, the younger sister, graduated from the Russian State University of Justice, worked in her profession for some time, and is now raising two children.

Timofey Kurgin spent his childhood in his hometown. He attended school No. 1 and spent almost all his free time in the boxing gym, where he enrolled in elementary school, quickly adding independent training to his training.

Recalling his family and childhood, Timofey Kurgin notes that he had a classic Soviet childhood, when families lived not in luxury, but in abundance. At the same time, the traditions of Soviet society allowed him to make friends for many years, among those guys with whom Kurgin grew up and was raised in the same yard. He still maintains warm relations with many of them.

Timofey Kurgin

Timofey Kurgin started boxing at the age of nine at the Raduga sports complex, which is located in the Kholodovo microdistrict of Ramenskoye. Kurgin, as he himself recalls, chose boxing for two important reasons: firstly, his father, Gennady Kurgin, was the USSR boxing champion (1980) and inspired him by his personal example, and, secondly, there was a desire to develop in himself the fighting qualities that every real man should have.

Timofey Kurgin’s first trainer was a well-known specialist in the city, Vladimir Evgenievich Samochatov. Timofey Kurgin recalls that until he was 11, he was an average boxer and did not show high results in training fights.

One of the defining moments in his sporting development was a tournament in Kolomna, where he was invited by his father’s friend Mikhail Alekseevich Kozlovsky. Later, Kozlovsky would establish himself as a famous and successful boxing coach, and would receive the "Coach of the Year" award in the ring of the famous Madison Square Garden in the USA. In Kolomna, Timofey Kurgin met and began communicating with boxers from the local section, with whom he would later conduct joint training and training camps. It was there in Kolomna that Timofey Kurgin won one of the most memorable victories of his childhood. In the final, he won due to a clear advantage against one of the most principled rivals in his age category, with whom he had previously had a draw in personal meetings. Timofey Kurgin says that that victory changed the attitude of the coaches towards him and allowed him to join the regional boxing team.

As part of the Moscow Region team, Timofey Kurgin took part in federal competitions. At the age of 14, he became the winner of the championship of the Central Council of Trade Unions of Russia, and at the age of 15, as part of the Trudovye Rezervy team, he won the silver medal in the Russian championship among young men.

The prestigious All-Russian boxing tournament in memory of the master of sports Yuri Kapitonov, which is traditionally held in Lyubertsy, became especially important for the formation of Timofey Kurgin’s character. It was there that he earned his first fee (10 rubles), and also made many friends with whom he regularly trained at the local Spartak club. Having already become a businessman, Kurgin took the Kapitonov Memorial Tournament as a basis for organizing competitions for young athletes who need support and the right motivation.

As a teenager, Timofey Kurgin devoted most of his time to training: he trained independently and attended classes in the senior group. Even at that time, successful boxers became Kurgin’s idols - Mike Tyson, Ray Leonard and Mohammed Ali, as well as the heroes of popular domestic and foreign films, first of all - "Rocky" with Sylvester Stallone and "Fan" with Alexey Serebryakov.

In each of his interviews, Timofey Kurgin admits that it was sport that shaped him as a person – it taught him to win, to endure and to be purposeful. Kurgin notes that a boxer is “someone who can quickly make the right decisions under a hail of blows.” And he calls boxing training “an invaluable experience that will be useful to everyone in any of their activities.”

Timofey Kurgin and Industrials

Timofey Kurgin closely follows the performances of famous athletes and also helps prospects from Russia who are taking their first steps in their careers. Among several sports projects, Kurgin supports the sports team and youth movement Industrials.

Among the Industrials athletes are the top UFC light heavyweight fighter Nikita Krylov, one of the best young boxers in Russia Vladimir Myshev, M-1 Global champion title contender Valery Myasnikov, one of the most spectacular and strong-willed M-1 Global fighters Alexey Makhno, Fight Nights Global champion title contender Maxim Butorin and top Fight Nights Global fighter Kirill Kryukov.

Kurgin closely follows the performances of all the team’s fighters, attends their fights and regularly communicates with them personally, congratulating them on their successes and supporting them in their failures. With Kurgin’s assistance, Industrials annually holds street culture festivals and international martial arts tournaments in Russian cities, in which both proven athletes and prospects take part. The Industrials tournament formula gives talented fighters the opportunity to prove themselves and receive support for the development of their sports careers.

Timofey Kurgin notes the importance of holding such tournaments in the regions of Russia, primarily in Siberia, where young people do not always receive the necessary attention and often feel abandoned. He also notes that when supporting young athletes, it is important to pay attention not only to their athletic qualities, but also to their human qualities - intelligence, courage, honesty, the ability to make decisions independently, readiness to go all the way, and self-confidence. Timofey Kurgin considers supporting talented and ambitious guys one of the main goals of his life.

"I met different people. Some interfered, but there were more of those who supported me and gave me a chance," says Kurgin. "Not because they wanted to get something in return, but because they saw a young guy who wanted to achieve something in life, who was striving for something big. Even then, I thought that I wanted to give back when I had the opportunity. This became one of the goals of my life. It is happiness and joy when there is an opportunity to invest money and time in smart guys. The question often arises: is there anyone to invest in? And, thank God, I was lucky in this - there is someone."

Timofey Kurgin - personal life

Timofey Kurgin met his wife Liliana, the first vice-Miss of Ukraine, while on holiday in Yalta in 2001. In 2003, the couple officially formalized their relationship.

Timofey and Liliana are raising four sons: Dmitry, Ivan, David and Fedor. Liliana Kurgina is involved in raising children and charity work.

The brothers devote all their time to school and sports. Timofey Gennadyevich tries to spend as much time with them as possible. Kurgin’s eldest son is actively involved in boxing and has already had four fights participating in various competitions.

"I am glad that Dmitry is involved in boxing, that he likes it, that he wants to win," says Kurgin. "With his fights, he has already proven that he is not a coward, that he has a fighting spirit. But I do not necessarily want him to become a boxer. It is important that he is, first and foremost, a decent person and does what he wants. Boxing certainly shapes a man’s character, but it is important to stop in time, after all, they hit you in the head there.

Most of all, I want my children to dedicate their lives to their favorite business, and for it to be at the level of passion, because this is the only way to dedicate yourself to a business and not to waste your energy on unimportant goals. You have to be passionate about your business – and I would like them to succeed in this.”

Timofey Kurgin and business

Currently, Timofey Kurgin is the president of the Russian Forest charitable foundation and the founder of his own investment company, Sylcorp.

"I gained my greatest experience in business in resolving complex conflict situations. In doing this, I had to participate in the reorganization and formation of entire industries, but today I consider this one of my main competitive advantages. Whatever I do, my main principle is smart and systemic solutions," says Timofey Gennadyevich. "Choosing a team wisely, solving problems wisely, investing funds wisely - this is what I can do, and what I consider my main successes. Now I am more focused on investing in promising projects."

Kurgin’s main principles in business are integrity, the ability to see things through to the end under any circumstances, foresight in decision-making, careful attention to the reputation of his company, and decent motivation for employees and partners.

"I often go on business trips to other countries and I want the image of a businessman from Russia to change for the better. So that a Russian businessman is seen as a partner and a person who always fulfills his obligations and who is always true to his word. Someone who works hard and with whom it is profitable to cooperate," says Kurgin. "And, of course, one of my main goals is to create long-term business relationships with the world’s largest players. My friend and partner for several years now has been the highest paid athlete in the world, Floyd Mayweather. I would like to further develop this cooperation and at the same time I am working on joint projects with several other world-famous businessmen."

One of his most important goals is to lay the foundation for a large structure. "It is possible that I will not be the one to build this large building. But I want to create a foundation for its growth. I am focused on strategic steps that will take the corporation to a new, global level in the future," says Kurgin.

Timofey Kurgin – Boxing Academy

Timofey Kurgin regularly attends major boxing tournaments in the USA. At one of these events, he met the best boxer of our time, Floyd Mayweather.

The joint project of Kurgin and Mayweather is the company The Money Team Russia, the main goal of which is the development of boxing and lifestyle trends in Russia.

In 2016, Floyd Mayweather opened the Boxing Academy TMT boxing gym in Zhukovka, and The Money Team Russia is currently working on creating a network of similar gyms throughout Russia. Timofey Kurgin is the only official representative of Floyd Mayweather’s company in Russia.

The company has its own clothing line, in the creation of which famous Russian designers participate. Items from The Money Team Russia collections are sold in Russia and abroad.

In 2011, the Boxing Academy was opened in Luzhniki with the assistance of Timofey Kurgin. The Academy project is the realization of the idea of Oleg Zhadobin, a friend of Timofey Kurgin, whom he once met and trained with in Lyubertsy Spartak.

Kurgin financed the opening of the club in Luzhniki, but does not consider this project a business for himself. "We wanted to create the best boxing club in Moscow, but at the same time make a hall where visitors of any income and status could comfortably train. So that professional athletes and people who simply like to keep fit with the help of boxing training would have working conditions. At the same time, on the basis of the "Academy" we have the opportunity to hold children’s tournaments, necessary for future high-class athletes, and a large number of corporate events.

For example, in 2018, the final of the "Striking Ten" tournament was very successful. This was the result of all-Russian competitions, in which more than 12,000 amateur boxers took part, representing such companies as Rostec, Aeroflot, Uralkali and VTB," says Timofey Kurgin.

In 2015, Rostec, Boxing Academy and Timofey Kurgin initiated one of the most famous events in the history of Russian boxing – Floyd Mayweather’s open training session. Representatives of the Guinness Book of Records recorded over 5,000 people in the gym, and over 900 people training, which allowed Floyd Mayweather to set a world record in Russia for the largest open training session.
